Ontario doesn't have a single province-wide pool code — each municipality writes its own bylaw, and they vary on minor details (some allow 4' height, others require 5'). What's universal:
The default — 90% of pool installs we do. Black powder-coat reads almost invisible from inside the pool deck. Doesn't require cleaning the way glass does, doesn't need a base shoe, fastest install timeline.
For when the view from the pool deck back to the lawn / back of the house matters. Framed glass at 6mm or frameless at 12mm — frameless is the premium look but framed passes the same code at half the cost.
Permit note: if your pool isn't yet permitted, the pool fence is part of the pool permit application — your pool installer or general contractor handles that paperwork. We supply engineered drawings on request to support the application.
Sometimes — depends on the bylaw. Toronto and Mississauga allow the property-line fence to count as the pool barrier IF it's at least 4' tall, has 4" picket gaps, and the gate has pool hardware. Other municipalities require a separate inner fence around the pool itself. We check this for your specific address before quoting.
From the deck, not from grade. If your deck is 18" above grade, the fence still has to be 4' (or 5' depending on city) measured from the deck surface, not from the lawn below. This trips up a lot of DIY installs.
3–5 days on site for a typical residential pool perimeter (under 200 ft). Longer for irregular shapes, retaining-wall integration, or jobs over 250 ft. Includes post anchoring, gate hardware install, and inspection-ready cleanup.
Sometimes. If the existing posts are aluminum and structurally sound, we can re-skin with new pickets and replace the gate hardware — saves about 25% on the install. If the existing posts are wood, vinyl, or rusted iron, we replace everything because the post is the part that fails first.
